Your rating for Sharbati Raw Rice

How is Sharbati Raw Rice processed?

Raw processing gives the softest and most aromatic cook of any processing type, best when the dish is served straight away. At the mill the sequence is:

  1. Paddy is cleaned and dried to a stable milling moisture.
  2. The husk is removed in a rubber-roll sheller, leaving brown rice.
  3. The bran is polished off in stages to an even white surface.
  4. The rice is graded by length and sortex colour-sorted to remove discoloured grains.
  5. Every lot is tested for moisture, broken percentage and grain length before packing.

Questions buyers ask

Sharbati Raw Rice: common questions

Sharbati Raw Rice is milled straight from dried paddy with no soaking or heat treatment, so the grain keeps its full natural aroma and cooks soft and fluffy; Sharbati Steam Rice is steamed briefly in the husk before drying and milling, which firms the grain, cuts breakage and makes the cooked rice less sticky while keeping most of the raw aroma. In the pot, Sharbati Raw Rice gives the softest and most aromatic cook of any processing type, best when the dish is served straight away. It cooks in 12–15 minutes and keeps for 12 months, against 15–18 minutes and 18 months for Sharbati Steam Rice.

Rinse Sharbati Raw Rice two or three times, soak it for 20–30 minutes, then cook at about 1 : 1.75–2 rice to water for 12–15 minutes. The grain cooks to an average length of 12–13 mm, roughly 1.8× its raw length of 7.10 mm.

Sharbati Raw Rice keeps for 12 months from the packing date in cool, dry storage away from direct sunlight. Raw rice has the shortest shelf life of the processing types because it has had no heat treatment.

Sharbati Raw Rice is packed in 1 / 5 / 10 / 25 / 40 / 50 kg — retail packs of 1, 5 and 10 kg and bulk bags of 25, 40 and 50 kg in PP, BOPP or jute, plain or printed with your own brand. A 20ft container carries about 26 metric tonnes, and mixed containers are accepted from 5 tonnes per grade.

Sharbati Raw Rice is exported from India under ITC(HS) code 1006 30 90, within heading 1006 30 for semi-milled or wholly milled rice. The final classification is confirmed on the shipping bill for each consignment.

1121 Raw Basmati Rice

Raw 1121 shows the variety’s full aroma and its famous elongation — the grain more than doubles in length on cooking — so it is the first choice for premium retail packs and home cooks.

  • 8.35 mm
  • 1.0% broken

Pusa Raw Basmati Rice

Raw Pusa Basmati gives a genuine Basmati aroma and soft cook at a keener price than 1121, which makes it the everyday Basmati for many retail brands in India and abroad.

  • 7.45 mm
  • 2.0% broken

1509 Raw Basmati Rice

Raw 1509 is harvested earlier than 1121 and gives a long, slender, low-chalk grain, so it is often the sharper buy for retail packs when 1121 prices climb.
